After some early pressure from the hosts with the Hibs backline holding strong a Hannah Davison header from a corner broke the deadlock as the Gers went in at the break a goal in front. Two well taken Kirsty Howat goals in the second half put the Light Blues in control of the match with defender Davison adding her second of the night to claim another three points.
Malky Thomson made five changes to his team from the 4-0 victory over Dundee United. Jenna Fife, Rachel McLauchlan, Tessel Middag, Megan Bell and Kirsty Howat all coming into the starting XI.
Rangers registered an early shot at goal through Megan Bell, picking up the ball on the left side and firing a strike at goal which was calmy collected by Benedicte Haaland in the Hibs goal.
Brogan Hay picked out a clever run round the back post from Bell with an inch perfect cross, but the winger could only divert the difficult opportunity on the half volley over the crossbar.
The Gers had the better of the early play but were restricted to shots from distance in the opening 15 minutes at Broadwood. Kirsty Howat took the ball on the half turn around 30 yards from goal and attempted an ambitious effort but couldn’t trouble the away side’s shot stopper.
Another half chance fell the way of Rangers, the hosts having comfortable control of possession at this stage as Bell again found Howat in a more dangerous central area. Taking the ball on the half turned she fired a right footed shot at goal which flew over the bar.
The Light Blues took the lead and it came in the form of a set piece for the second time against the Edinburgh side this season. Tessel Middag delivered a corner from the far side and it was met by Hannah Davison who’s inch perfect header was glanced into the far corner to put the hosts in front in Cumbernauld.
Rangers turned up the heat as they went in search for a second before the half hour mark, after some initial work from Brogan Hay she found the overlapping Rachel McLauchlan who had found space down the right channel. Looking for the arrival Bell round the back her dangerous delivery looked to have caused problems but the ricochet fell in favour of the visitors as it went behind.
Chelsea Cornet registered another shot on target for the hosts again from distance, which was held by Haaland down on her left-hand side as the Gers looked to double their advantage before the break.
Nicola Docherty did brilliantly to avert any potential danger as Hibs looked to break from a Rangers corner. Lucy Parry was played in behind down the left-hand side but the Gers left back showed terrific recovery pace to make the sliding challenge and divert the ball away.
Despite controlling the majorly of the contest clear cut chances were hard to come by with the set piece the difference as the Gers went in at the break a goal to the good.
Hibs started to come into the contest in an attacking sense at the start of the second half, Rosie Livingstone found herself in space on the left side on two occasions but couldn’t make the most of the promising opportunity as her cross found the hands of Jenna Fife.
Rangers were the ones to put themselves into the ascendency as they doubled their lead just over 10 minutes in the second half. A superb long ball down the line from Docherty was latched onto by Howat, taking it round the keeper she did brilliantly to turn the ball home on her left side at the angle as the Light Blues made it two on the night to give themselves breathing space.
After a period of little chances, the Light Blues took complete control of the match as Howat added her second and the team’s third. A long diagonal pass from McLauchlan found the striker in acres of space, taking her initial touch over the looping keeper she opted to check by the sliding Joelle Murray showing great composure before passing the ball into the empty net.
Three quickly became four as another set piece was converted by the hosts, again it was Middag’s corner which was met by Davison as the centre back got her header on another cross and added her second of the night. The Gers putting the game out of sight with just under 20 minutes to go.
Substitute Colette Cavanagh went close to adding a fifth towards the end as the ball broke to her inside the area after fellow sub Jenny Danielsson’s shot was blocked with the Gers seeing the game out comfortably to register a third win in a row in their final league fixture before next week’s international break.
