First half goals from Tessel Middag, Megan Bell and Rio Hardy saw the Gers go into the break with a three-goal lead.
Kirsty Howat, a second Hardy finish and goals from youngsters Laura Berry and Eilidh Austin rounded off the scoring and saw the Gers book their place in the last four as they warmed up for their league clash against Glasgow City next weekend in impressive fashion.
The head coach named five changes to the team that ran out 3-1 winners over Spartans last weekend. Victoria Esson, Lizzie Arnot, Megan Bell, Rachel Rowe and Mia McAulay all came into the starting lineup.
Rangers got off to the perfect start in Cumbernauld. A quick corner kick routine involving Lizzie Arnot and Rachel Rowe saw the latter take a shot which was initially blocked by the Boroughmuir defence before it fell to Tessel Middag who fired the ball into the back of the net on the volley from close range to put the Gers in front inside two minutes.
The away side started settling into the game after a few stoppages in play. The Gers looked to build on their early lead but were unable to threaten Beth Rennie’s goal with any further attempts on target.
Two Arnot attempts were to follow one which stung the palms of Rennie who dealt with the shot after initially parrying. Another shot was to follow moments later from the winger but this time the effort flew well over the top of the crossbar. The Light Blues continued to threaten but were unable to create any further clear chances to double their lead.
25 minutes on the clock at Broadwood the away side were holding firm. Waves of attack continued for the hosts but no further chances to threaten the lead fell to Jo Potter’s side.
Megan Bell was on hand to double the advantage after a clever turn and finish inside the area. The Northern Ireland international received the ball on her chest after a delivery from the left side. She took it down well before firing the ball with the outside of her foot beyond Rennie and into the net to make it two.
Two was soon to become three as Rio Hardy was on hand to volley home from close range. Once again Arnot was the provider as her stepover and cross beat the Boroughmuir backline before the striker met the delivery on the volley from close range as her effort found the top corner.
Rangers made it four shortly after the restart. Combination play involving substitute Rachel McLauchlan and Rowe saw the defender send in a delivery which was met by Hardy at the near post as she fired it beyond Rennie to add her second and the Gers’ fourth of the day.
The Light Blues continued to threaten as they went in search of more goals. Rowe was again involved as this time her shot from a tight angle whistled wide of the post and behind.
Kirsty Howat got herself on the scoresheet as she rounded off a fantastic week from a personal perspective to add a fifth for the Gers. The initial shot from McLauchlan was parried by Rennie and the striker was on hand to tap home the rebound to continue her fine form in front of goal.
Rowe looked certain to add to the Rangers lead after getting on the end of a Howat delivery on the far side. The Wales international arrived on the scene inside the area as she got on the end the cross but Rennie made an impressive point blank save to keep the score at five.
Laura Berry made an immediate impact off the substitutes bench as she helped herself to goal. The youngster shortly after being introduced to the field of play got on the end of a McLauchlan cross to volley home from close range to add a sixth.
Eilidh Austin was on hand to add to the scoring as she made it seven towards the end. Involved in the initial build-up play the youngster found herself well placed inside the area before shifting the ball expertly onto her right foot and firing the ball beyond Rennie and into the net.
