Match Report: Rangers Pick Up Three Points Against Hearts

RANGERS picked up three points in the Park’s Motor Group SWPL this afternoon with a 5-0 victory over Hearts in Edinburgh.

Demi Vance gave Rangers the lead inside the opening 15 minutes before a Jane Ross double made it 3-0 at the break.

Lizzie Arnot added a fourth from the penalty spot in the second-half before a stunning strike from Chelsea Cornet rounded off the scoring.

Malky Thomson named two changes to his team from last weekend’s cup game at Stenhousemuir as Chantelle Swaby and Brogan Hay came into the starting eleven with Jodi McLeary and Emma Watson on the bench.

Rangers dominated the opening stages at Oriam as they looked to find a breakthrough against the Edinburgh side.

The deadlock was broken in the 14th minute as left-back Demi Vance advanced down the wing before whipping a ball towards goal which sneaked in at the near post.

It was two quick-fire goals for the Light Blues as they doubled their advantage just two minutes later. It was a well-worked goal from Malky Thomson’s side as Lizzie Arnot picked out Jane Ross in the box and the striker fired an effort before Charlotte Parker-Smith.

Ross came close to her second shortly after as she was alert to pick up on a loose ball on the edge of the box and fired a left-footed shot across goal but it bounced just wide of the target.

It was a third for Rangers in the 23rd minute, the Light Blues were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box which was fired towards goal by Lizzie Arnot. Arnot’s effort was pushed away by Parker-Smith but Jane Ross was on hand to tap home her second of the afternoon.

Demi Vance had a long distance shot pushed away by Parker-Smith as Rangers continued to pile the pressure on the hosts before the break.

It was a quiet start to the second-half as Malky Thomson made a double substitution on the 57th minute as Rangers looked to further add to their tally. Megan Bell made a welcome return, as youngster Kirsty Maclean also entered the action with Brogan Hay and Chantelle Swaby coming off.

Captain Brianna Westrup forced a good save from Parker-Smith just after the hour mark as she got her head on the end of a Lizzie Arnot corner, but the home keeper got a hand to the effort to deny Rangers.

Maria McAneny had a shot for the visitors from distance as they looked to get a goal back in the game but her low effort was held comfortably by Jenna Fife.

Rangers were awarded a penalty on the 72nd minute as Megan Bell was fouled in the box. Lizzie Arnot stepped up to the spot and calmly slotted her right-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Chelsea Cornet made it 5-0 with 10 minutes remaining with a fantastic strike into the top corner from distance to beat Parker-Smith.
