The Light Blues produced a strong second half performance to overcome the La Liga side, marking another famous evening in the competition in front of their home supporters. The winger feels the team can build on the result moving forward and praised the backing they got from the Gers faithful to gain the three points.
Speaking to RangersTV after the result, Matondo commented: “We can take big confidence, because we played against a good side and we can take it into Sunday and the games we have got this month. Just keep pushing and keep working hard for each other and ultimately get the result that we want and that is wins.
“The atmosphere was top and they drove us on from the get-go. We are grateful for that, we want that every home game and not just the big European nights, it was good.”
The 23-year-old feels the Light Blues were worthy winners on the night, with the hosts finding the breakthrough with 23 minutes of normal time remaining after periods of sustained pressure throughout the second 45 minutes.
He continued: “It was a good game overall, two good teams, we both went out to win it and I am glad it was us in the end.
“I felt like we deserved it with the chances that we created and the pressure we put on them especially in the second half. I think it was a fully deserved win.
“It was a good result for us, we needed that, the atmosphere was unbelievable. It was a good result overall and three points so we will take it.”
