RANGERS can today announce Matthew Shiels has joined Clyde on-loan until the end of the season, with Gers retaining a January recall option.
Full-back Shiels will head to obtain exposure to men’s first-team football with the League One outfit, with their season beginning on October 10 in the Betfred Cup group stage at home to Dumbarton.
This will be 19 year-old Shiels’ third loan spell following previous spells at Edinburgh City and Dumbarton, with this latest spell at the Bully Wee coming as part of a carefully designed development plan.
Shiels will be hoping to feature in a highly-competitive and demanding environment where Clyde will be aiming to kick-on towards the top-end of the division under manager Danny Lennon.
Matthew will be monitored closely by Loans Manager, Billy Kirkwood, and the Academy coaching staff.
