A 3-1 aggregate victory over Panathinaikos saw Russell Martin’s men into the third qualifying round, and Aarons, who joined this squad this summer, believes it can only benefit the team moving forward as they rose to the challenge in Athens.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Aarons said: “It was extremely difficult, coming to Athens against a team at the top end of their league it is always going to be extremely difficult and then you add the weather in.
"We knew what we were coming into tonight and I think we always knew it was going to be a different game to what it was at Ibrox, and we had to grind it out for sure.
“It is interesting because it is so early on in our time as a group. It is definitely a test, and we really came through it.
“I think we grew into the game in the first leg, we grew into the game in this game as well. It is a great test for us and seeing this group can dig in.
"You need to dig in to win leagues, to win cup competitions and get as far as you can you have to look to the side and know everyone is going to battle and I think we definitely showed that tonight which is really good to see.”
Over the two-legs, Djeidi Gassama netted a double, with Findlay Curtis also coming up with a goal in the first leg at Ibrox.
Aarons was full of praise for both players, and hopes the result can give the squad confidence ahead of the start of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
He continued: “Gass needs to keep doing what he is doing and coming on and contributing as he did and young Fin as well.
"These are big nights, and these experiences are massive, so it was a real test for this group being so early on in our time and we are rising to them at the moment.
“These are the nights you want to be a part of, and we are through to the next round now. I think it was a massive step for this group, and it gives us huge confidence now going into the league, so I think this is a really big step for the squad.”
