McAllister: Well Will Be Tough

RANGERS’ attentions must immediately turn to Motherwell for what Gary McAllister believes will be a tough test for his side at Fir Park tomorrow.

The Light Blues are coming off the back of a superb 4-0 defeat of Willem II in the Netherlands last night – and while the players are allowed to look back on that win with pride, they must refocus and prepare for an early start on tomorrow morning.

McAllister told Friday’s press conference: "The game will look slightly different. Last night, we were playing against a side who were very technical and looked to pass the ball - not that I'm saying Motherwell won't as Motherwell have changed I feel in the last year or so.

"They are moving the ball very well, but it's just that shift from European football back to domestic football and back to the bread and butter so to speak.

"We have got to get the right reaction after the travel and getting a positive result, and coming back down to the reality of going there and winning all three points.

"It will be tough as it’s a tough place to go. But we are well versed - we have now had two seasons of coping with the Europa League.

"We have had some real, positive results at some tough places, so the fact is the players have managed that previously.

"But also, last night, I think we looked like a team which was happy and could cope with that level of opponent, but we have got to turn the attention immediately to Motherwell as it is a big game for us and we want to keep the run going.

"So it is a case of enjoy the result, get the rest and recovery, but when we come back to training in the morning, we turn our attentions to a massive three points we are going to go and look for at Fir Park."

The potential for Ryan Kent - who made it five goals from just nine games this season last night - to be called-up for England was also floated by the press.

On that, McAllister said: "He is very exciting at the moment and is playing with a lot of confidence. What I would say, is when you perform the way you have performed against a team from Holland, and Willem II are a good side, and are in the Europa League on merit - when you play against that level of opponent, then you never know. He must be getting close.

"There is a push towards younger players in the England setup with Gareth Southgate and Ryan is exciting - I don't want to be shouting from the rooftops, but there is a player here who is in really good form."
