MIA McAULAY says it was a special feeling to deliver the match winning moment in this evening’s Old Firm victory under the lights at Ibrox.
The teenager is no stranger to a big goal in this fixture and when she strode inside from the left-hand side with four minutes remaining, there was only one outcome as her curling effort flew beyond Lisa Rodgers.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, a delighted McAulay beamed: “I’m buzzing.There’s no better feeling than scoring at Ibrox, no better feeling than playing at Ibrox, and no better feeling than winning at Ibrox. To do it against Celtic is amazing.
“I love scoring goals but tonight was special and especially so at Ibrox.
“What do I remember about the goal? I just remember Shin Ji picking up the ball.
“We pointed out at half-time that the opposite side was on the whole time when we won the ball.
“Shin Ji came on, done it perfectly, and played it right to my feet.
“My eyes lit up, I’ve tried to put it into the back of the net, and it’s went in.”
The Gers support showed up in fine voice and McAulay paid tribute to their impact on the scoreline, adding: “They came in numbers tonight.
“They really got behind us and it’s a 12th man for us. The fans were great tonight.
“I love playing at Ibrox and the team does too. As a team we can get the ball on the ground and the ball is really slick on it.”
Rangers were forced to ride a wave of Celtic pressure in the first half, but they showed tremendous resilience to level before the half-time interval through Laura Berry.
And even after being pegged by a Saoirse Noonan leveller, they found inspiration to deliver the match winner in the dying stages.
McAulay added: “I think in the first half we weren’t great. We got the goal right before half-time, came in at half-time, and it shows the character in the dressing room to come back from a bad first-half and to go ahead in the second half.
“They came back level and for us to get the goal again it shows the character in the dressing room.”
