The Scotland Under-19 international showed superb composure to slot past the advancing Kelsey Daugherty with 20 minutes left to maintain the Gers’ four-point lead at the top.
McAulay was delighted to play such a big part in keeping up their unbeaten domestic run.
Speaking to Rangers TV, she said: “Jo told me to keep doing what I have been doing in recent games.
“I wanted to take my opponent on and she told me this is a great occasion to score and I have done that.
“It was a special moment for me. I have played at Ibrox a few times with the academy and now the first-team and never scored.
“I was delighted to score but I was unlucky not to get a second.
“I think we started really well and we had a chance early doors through Jane Ross and we were unlucky not to score first.
“We reacted well to going 1-0 down and we had chances to win it, but unfortunately we haven’t but we go again.
“Sometimes in football it can go your way and other times it doesn’t.”
McAulay was delighted to see so many Rangers fans cheering on the side.
The talented teen spent plenty of time getting selfies and signing autographs with her team-mates after the match.
McAulay insists they helped lift the team and she praised them for helping the injury-hit squad through the derby ahead of several players going on international duty.
She added: “It was a great turnout and we want to thank the fans, we really heard them throughout the game.
“We have a few players going away for the international break, so it gives us a chance to come away from club football.
“But when we all come back we will be ready.”
