The young Gers will host the League One side at Cappielow Park, supported by Dalrada Technology in the third round of the competition with Championship side Airdrie awaiting the winner.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference the head coach wants his team to take the chance to go and perform in front of a crowd to continue on their impressive showings in the cup ties they have played so far.
He said: “It is just different because I believe the games we have had so far have been a brilliant tests for the players in different ways, but that brings a different test and challenge. Playing against men in the Scottish League system is a brilliant opportunity for our boys to go and show what they capable of doing as a young group of players together against a good team at a higher league.
“The benefit of this game it is not about looking beyond the two, three or four rounds ahead of this, it is about looking at this game and saying lets go and perform. Let’s show who we are when we have the ball and show that we are competitive when we don't have it.
“We have got a real sort of desire to make sure we show who we are, but the benefit is to go play against a team in the next league up again, and that is the advantage of winning the game.
“We will look forward to being in a really competitive game tomorrow night, and hopefully we go and make sure that we can perform in those levels in who we are and deal with the competitive side of it at the same time.”
McCallum says he doesn’t know how tomorrow’s opponents will approach the tie but says the Gers will be fully prepared to facing a full strength Alloa squad.
He continued: “They will look at the game a little bit differently, it is away from the league programme. It is very early in the league just now anyway so I don't think there will be a lot of emphasis on that just now.
“It is their first Trust Trophy game so I don't know how much they will change their group, but we will plan for them to have what we believe to be their normal playing squad. We will work off the back of that.”
The head coach feels the team’s participation in the Best v Best programme so far has been highly beneficial in terms of the level of opponent they have faced so far this season and wants the team to show how good they are in the match in Greenock tomorrow evening.
He added: “The boys and obviously I can't speak for them directly but what I can do is speak for the ones I have spoken to and from a staff point of view, we have got such an exciting programme this season. We have played in some really top level games, played against men in the Scottish leagues in terms of the Trust Trophy already which was Spartans and Stenhousemuir.
“We have got this one to look forward to tomorrow night, we have played against men in the European sense. We have played against the English based teams in a similar sort of level, so our variety has been excellent, which has been great for the players challenge and development.
“They have had to think a lot about their own individual game and within a team context as well, tomorrow just brings another part of that, it will be a different type of game. It will be against men that will look at us and hopefully see that we are a good team.”
