The B Team boss has reflected on the squad’s past performance against Ritchie Maxwell’s side late last year and believes that they can recognise areas they can improve on to gain the three points.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their next league fixture, he said: “Like any of our games, once you have played the first round against each of the teams you have a bit more of an understanding on how they play, where their threats are and where you can get into areas that will cause them problems.
“It creates knowledge and an understanding because we don’t really know each of these teams until we play them first, once you’ve got that it helps but we will try and make sure that most of our focus remains on us to make sure that we hit the performance levels we think that we can hit with the ball. It’s about trying to get complete performances and not just focusing on one or two areas; we want to try and be as complete as we can be and that will be the message as we head into the game.
“I’ll be looking for a performance that resembles what we have been for most of the season, we have had one or two dips that have cost us to lose games that we don’t want to lose but that’s where you’ve got to learn. You’ve got to look back on those moments and try and recognise where those areas that have caused us problems exist and bring it into the training and analysis sessions.”
McCallum added his expectations and the team’s preparations ahead of the match as he looked back on their last meeting with their side at the Islecroft Stadium in November.
He continued: “This is a long-awaited game; it’s been one that been postponed a couple of times. We lost our game down at Dalbeattie Star so from our point of view we want to try and make sure that we put on a good performance again but try and get the right result. I don’t think that we deserved to win the last game, I thought that we had a few chances, but we weren’t clinical enough. We were punished on two occasions, we are aware of those two threats that Dalbeattie will bring, so we have to make sure that we will be better in those two areas and to be more clinical in our attacking third.
“We’ve had a busy spell just now with the Glasgow Cup fixtures, it’s a lot of games at the moment and our training tends to focus on recovery and preparing for the next game. We’ll refocus after the cup run and make sure that we’re looking at the league game at the weekend to make sure that our performance levels are right to get the result at the end.”
