The B team boss outlined the intensity levels that come with this fixture and insists the young Gers must use the home fans as an incentive force to reach their level and gain another win against Tommy McIntyre’s side in the league campaign.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of the match, he said: “Every Old Firm is a big game, that in itself brings a different energy and pressure, but one that we are looking forward to. We’ve played them two games in the space of two weeks, we hit a level in the last game which was what we expect of us.
“The support from the stands [Ibrox] was different class and it was important that we used that on the given day which we did. It will be different this time, we know that we’re not going to have that support in the stands which we did at Ibrox.
“Almost the best way to deal with playing against support that’s against you is to quieten them by hitting an energy and level of performance that we know we are capable of doing – that will be our attention.
“They know the plan, we’ll spend a bit more time on the pitch to look at some finer details, but they know what we expect and what they expect of themselves and work together to try and ensure a result.
McCallum reflected on Saturday’s result against Stirling Uni in the league campaign and believes that the Light Blues must use that frustration as motivation that they can rectify on Tuesday night.
He added: “There is no hiding place, we weren’t good enough. We know the levels that we hit at the weekend; we were nowhere near what we are capable of doing.
“We’re hurting and we were in yesterday off the back of the game and spent time to recognise and see the areas we know need to be better. Our attention now goes forward to Celtic on Tuesday rather than backwards.
“We want to show quality specifically in both boxes, we know that we’re going to have to defend, and we’ve got defenders in there ready to deal with that. We know that we’re a forward threat as well, we’ve got goals in the team, and we want to make sure that we try and utilise those threats at the right times.
“It’s a game that we’re really looking forward to and we can’t wait to get back on the pitch again. Unity is always going to be there; the balance is trying to get control and the energy for the game rather than letting the boys get too focused too quickly and early.
“The players are hurting from the weekend, and they know that this game is a good opportunity. We’ll try and focus first and foremost on what we are capable of doing and take that into the game.”
