First half goals from Robbie Ure and Thompson Ishaka put the Light Blues in control at the break before the former added his second of the day late on and substitute Zak Lovelace rounded off the scoring on a comfortable afternoon for the Gers.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win the head coach was full of praise for his side’s first half display in particular as they put on a dominant display at the Training Centre.
He said: “I thought in the first half the boys were excellent, we created numerous chances and probably the only frustration we had is that we didn't take more of them.
“I think it was just the way the game panned out, I thought we had a lot of control and good moments, we challenged the full-backs to get themselves into good positions to go and serve in terms of getting crosses into the box and I thought we did that really well.
“I think that is evident three of the four goals came from those situations one from Robbie [Fraser] and two from Jack [Harkness].
“Second half was a little more balanced, Queen’s Park had a few more opportunities than they did in the first but we defended them well. A good performance and really pleased with the goals as well.”
McCallum was happy with the start his side made to the contest as they created several chances throughout the opening 45 minutes.
He added: “We spoke about being aggressive and I don't mean by how we were in terms of putting tackles in. I just mean by playing on the front foot and making sure when they had the ball that they felt the pressure and we could guide them to places that we could get regains.
“I thought we did that quite well and whilst we had possession you need to control and not rush every attack but when we could go after it and try make a difference when we had the ball.
“We showed a good balance and I thought Arron and Bailey along with the two centre-backs gave us good control to get to our attacking moments. We asked the full-backs and the more central wide players to make sure that we carried a threat as well, so a good balance and defensive moments as well when we had to, and a clean sheet balances it off as well.”
The boss hailed the quality of goals from his side on the day as Rangers now look forward to a final against rivals Celtic to come following the conclusion of their Lowland League campaign.
He continued: “A number of them will be happy with the ones that they have got because they are excellent goals, some of them will feel a bit frustrated because they personally could have taken one or two other chances.
“Sometimes it happens, missing the chances that we did particularly in the first half, but it was really pleasing, it is a final to look forward to, the boys are keen to finish the season strongly so it is important that we did that.
“We will look forward to that when it comes around, obviously we have got two league games to go first. A couple of other good games that we have got pencilled in as well along the way to try make sure the boys remain focused during the training days to try get to the point of exciting games to go and take part in.
“The final is naturally going to be that, it is an opportunity to go and win a competition, through the working week we talk about development but ultimately the guys want to go win and compete.
“This is an opportunity to go and do that, so we are there but we will focus on that once we have dealt with the league programme as well.”
