The Gers head coach described the final game as ‘frantic’ but says the season as a whole has been an important learning curve for the young players.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “I thought we started well, we had a lot of control and created some decent moments and opportunities.
"It was a good goal to get ourselves ahead but we probably found ourselves offside a little too often in the first-half and then we lose two goals which creates a little bit of tension within the group.
“It was a chance to finish second in the league so that was the message at half-time and the players realised that and obviously we scored three goals.
"Losing the goal late on makes it a little bit closer than we would've liked it to have been so we won't look too deeply into today I think we have to look at the season and it has been a very positive season for the lads and there has been a lot of individual development as well.
“I think it has been a good learning curve and the exposure to a competitive men's environment is good for them. Obviously the games are varied in terms of the level of challenge but every game presents a challenge in a different way.”
McCallum believes travelling to different grounds and the exposure to fans and media have all contributed to the players’ learning.
He continued: “There has been a mixture of learning in there that we have enjoyed and it is up to the players now to go and take that going forward.
"Player progression is always going to be our challenge and when you look at the players who have made their debut or played more minutes with the first team and others who have had opportunities to train as well that itself gives you the reason why this B team is really important for us.
“There have been a lot of different situations that have been important for us and I've not mentioned the fans there and the amount of fans we have had turning up, the media exposure for the players.
“We certainly appreciate the fact we have been allowed to play in this programme and hope going forward it will continue to challenge us.”
