The Light Blues return to Lowland League action this weekend in front of the home Gers supporters as they look to end their league campaign strongly as they head into their final four games.
Speaking to the media ahead of the clash McCallum says these are the types of games you look forward to when the schedule is announced as the hosts look for their first victory over their Glasgow rivals this campaign.
He said: “I think when you look at the programme that we have at the start of the season there are certain games that stand out and for the ones that we want to look forward to.
“Obviously the players are really keen to get back onto Ibrox again, they have had one or two opportunities over their time here at the club, but to go and do it with the home support behind you and on a pitch that is clear to see is in excellent condition as well, so an exciting prospect.”
The head coach believes the competitive nature of the match increases in an Old Firm and the prospect of playing the fixture in front of fans adds to the occasion.
He continued: “I think it does go up a level, any competitive programme where there is three points at stake, it is something that we have spoken about, to try develop our players to bridge the gap between academy and first team, that certainly adds to it, three points there.
“It is also an increased number coming to watch it as well which is also unique, because usually the Old Firm reserve or B team or Academy games it tends to be closed doors, that certainly adds another element for sure.”
McCallum believes playing in a game of this magnitude can only help the progression of his players as they look to come out on top as they chase down league leader Spartans as they head into their final month of games.
He added: “It can only enhance their development for sure, to go play for Rangers at Ibrox in front of 50 thousand fans is not an easy thing to do, we keep talking about bridging the gap, so it is exciting for them.
“It is the whole package, so these guys need to get a chance to go and show what they are able to do under a bit more pressure in these circumstances.”
