The 20-year-old was given the nod from the off after featuring as a second half substitute for the first-team in yesterday’s 4-0 victory over Hibernian at Ibrox.
And the Northern Irish Under-21 international added to his impressive goalscoring tally this term by levelling proceedings midway through the first half, collecting a pinpoint Bailey Rice pass before lifting a delicious finish over the goalkeeper.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, McCausland commented: “Playing on the biggest stages, when you look at the game yesterday and in the Europa League, I’m always looking to bring my experience of those games into today and give it to the younger players.
“They are the games that we all want to play every week against a top side. Those are the types of matches that are going to get you ready when you go round to be involved in the first-team.
“I try to keep myself level headed and my two feet on the ground. Coming into these games, my main goal is keeping my numbers and impact on the game high.”
The Light Blues were unfortunate to be on the losing side this afternoon, with Connor Allan’s stoppage time volley proving too little, too late in terms of the scoreline.
However, McCausland admits he was encouraged by his side’s approach to the game and application to the physical challenge.
He continued: “They were a top side and obviously the goals we conceded today were very disappointing. A clean sheet was something that we wanted to have, and the way we started the first half we looked very strong and capable of winning the game.
“I thought we competed very well with a top team. They play in the Europa Conference League and we expected them to be very good. In terms of the way we came out in the first half and conducted ourselves in a new shape, I thought we were very good.”
