The Light Blues were pegged back on two occasions and had to play out most of the second period with 10 men but held on for victory following James Graham’s strike after coming off the substitutes bench.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win the forward was delighted to pick up the victory and hold out for three points with the ten men.
He said: “The boys are absolutely delighted, it was three points that we needed to pick up, of course going down to 10 men early in the second half it was always going to make it tough, but the boys held through and got the three points that were well deserved.
“The character that the boys showed today was magnificent, going 1-0 then coming back to 1-1 we need to show character to keep the head and don't just rush to try get a goal and just play our own game, I think the boys showed that today.”
The winger praised the start the side made in the match with his assist allowing Charlie Lindsay to put the hosts in front after six minutes of the contest.
He continued: “The start that we had any team would be delighted with it, going out and getting that early goal I think gives us all the confidence that we need and obviously with Stirling Uni getting it back to 1-1 going into half time we just didn't want to concede.
McCausland had to fill in at right-back for the majority of the second half following Jack Harkness’ dismissal and he was happy his side were able to stand firm and perform in different roles.
He added: “It was tough, I need to give the full-backs credit for the amount of running that they do, I usually give them a bit of stick but it is something that I had a couple of seconds to adapt to.
“It wasn't something where I could think about it, it was there in the game and had to think about what I was doing but I think I done it well
“People having to play out of position like myself, I think to be able to do that and the boys to show that they are capable to play out of position it just shows you the work we do and everyone is listening in training, it is really good to see.”
