It was confirmed this week that Hall of Fame goalkeeper Allan McGregor will depart after two separate spells at the club, opening a window of opportunity for McCrorie to continue his claim for the starting jersey.
The 25-year-old has started three out of four post-split fixtures for the Light Blues, keeping a total of four clean sheets across his five starts for the club stretching back to his first-team debut in August 2021.
Speaking to the media ahead of the final game of the season, McCrorie said: "Coming through the Academy from the age of eight, the question has always been 'who's going to be the next Allan McGregor?'. I've wanted to try and give myself the best opportunity to try and be that. There are obviously pressures which come with it, but I've been at the club long enough and I want to embrace every second of it. I don't see it as a pressure playing for Rangers; I think it's a privilege. I'd much rather be at a club this size trying to win silverware than anywhere else.
"There are a lot of similarities between myself and McGregor. I've been out on loan, similar to him, from League Two right through to the Premiership. It's now about trying to establish myself. I hope the opportunity is there and I'll do everything that I can to make the most of it."
McCrorie believes the key is to take each game on its own merits, insisting he’s determined to seize his opportunity and catch the manager’s eye ahead of pre-season.
He continued: "The manager came in and had a conversation with every player. He said to me there will be an opportunity to play. Unfortunately I was out for two months and I could have had that opportunity a bit sooner, but during that period I knew it was just about coming back and it would come at some point. I have a lot of trust and faith in the manager that he would stick to his word.
"I wouldn't be here if I didn't [believe I could be No.1]. That's the mentality that you need to have at the club. You should be pushing every day to be starting and wanting to do well for the cause."
