McInnes: I Want To See Togetherness

DEREK McInnes wants to see togetherness from his team tomorrow night as they bid for a place in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League.

Rangers are in the Czech Republic for their play-off round second-leg against FK Jablonec, and with a 1-0 advantage, the manager says they must go out and play to win.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, he said: “It is always difficult when you go away from home in Europe. We need to play with a real focus, motivation and togetherness and we are going to have to bring a big performance.

“While we won the game last week, and we are disappointed we never added to it with some of the opportunities, it is important that we set out to win. We have to try to play to win and it’s important that the players recognise that we are not just going out to protect a 1-0 lead.

“The biggest danger of that is that it comes back to bite us so the focus is on bringing a big performance individually as a team and if we do that then I feel hopefully with a team performance we will get the desired outcome.”

McInnes gave an update on his squad, confirming Ben Godfrey has returned to the group after injury, while Nico Raskin hasn’t travelled amid transfer interest.

After a week on the training pitch, he added: “We are grateful for anytime on the training pitch and the lads have been in so we have worked hard, and been able to work at a better pace.

“I think everybody is looking for better, we have won the last two games, we are trying to integrate so many players, we are trying to get a rhythm, find that familiarity.

“We have been dealt a blow with one or two injuries so we will get better as we go along but it is important that we win games as we are trying to find our best performances,

“We understand the need for us to get better as we go along is going to be there and it is going to be a requirement and but we will get better and we need to make sure we win this game tomorrow night, get through the tie for obvious reasons European football is so important to the club financially but also for the prestige element of it to perform and represent the club in Europe is something that is very important to us.
