LIV MCLOUGHLIN was happy to make her return from injury in tonight’s pre-season test against AC Milan.
Following a spell of several months on the sidelines, the midfielder featured for the final 30 minutes of the friendly contest as the Gers rounded off their trip of Italy this evening.
Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on being back and how the week has gone, she commented: “I am really happy to be back on the pitch, it has been a while.
“I can tell that I have been out for a while but I just need to get sharp but yes I am happy and it is a good learning experience for us.
“Working way back to full fitness? Definitely that is the aim, trying to get myself back in the team now and be as sharp as I was before my injury.
“It was obviously hard being on the sideline for such a long time. Missing massive games like cup games and the final.
“I really missed that but I am really happy to be back and get cracking for the season now.
The English Under-23 international looked back on the period as a whole away with the squad, saying they will be better for the experience playing against top level opposition.
She continued: “I think this week has been a really good learning experience for all of us.
“The girls have really put in a good shift with a small squad at the moment. Obviously we are building on that but credit to the girls and they were brilliant today. It is hard work in the heat but we have got a lot out of it.
“The Champions League last season really helped us as a stepping stone for the season and unfortunately we don't have that this season. But these two games are definitely a big help for us going into the start of the season and something we can really look back on and use the strengths that we have shown.”
The Gers will now jet off home to Scotland before rounding off their pre-season preparations with the visit of Sunderland, as they look to be in the best place possible for their SWPL opener on August 17.
She added: “We will just look back on the two games that we have had and take the positives out of it and look at what we can learn from.
“Take that into our last game against Sunderland, I think it will be a good test again on Wednesday and I’m excited for the season to start now.”
