Nico Raskin Focusing On Form and Fitness

NICO Raskin says he has been focusing on the small details to help him find his best form with Rangers this season.

The midfielder has been a standout in recent weeks, and he hopes he can stay fit and continue to build on his performances. Raskin was speaking to the media at today’s press conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.

On his personal displays of late, he said: “I am playing where I want to play now, since I have come it is maybe the first time I have had a run in the number six position.

“It is the same for everybody, you are just trying to work hard to show that you want to play. The quality of training is high because everybody wants to play, and everybody wants to show that they are ready.

“When I wasn’t in the team, the team were doing well and winning games so it is normal that the team that plays good and wins games continues so it is just about time, working hard, not giving up and then when your chance comes it is up to you to take it and try to do the best out of that.”

The Belgian did have a difficult spell with injuries earlier in the year, and when asked about what he has changed he said the support of the staff and chefs at the training centre has helped him lose weight.

He explained: “I was questioning myself at the time because I had never really been injured before and when I came here, I started to have some injuries, so I was thinking I must be doing something wrong to have those injuries right now.

“I thought maybe I gained a bit too much weight and was too powerful so I just worked on my weight and tried to be lighter to avoid all those small injuries and it has been working well for me so I just have to continue with that.

“The chef prepares me some meals for home so I can eat well in the evening, I can follow my weight every day, so I have tried to make some extra changes to get back to my best form. It is the small details that make the difference on the pitch to being first on the ball or to being just too late on the ball.”

Reflecting on Wednesday evening’s 6-0 victory over Kilmarnock, and ahead to a big week for the squad, Raskin added: “The last game was really good to play, we scored a lot of goals, so it was really enjoyable on the pitch but even in the last couple of games we were quite good.

“The only thing we missed was scoring more goals, so we did it in the last game and now we just need to build on that.

“It is a big week, it is a very exciting week, I think we are all looking forward to it but to go in to the week with a good feeling we need to put in a good performance against Ross County, it is never easy but we are just going to take it game by game and try to do our best.”
