A goal down to SK Slavia Praha with just over eight minutes of normal time remaining, the captain stepped up with a fantastic volley from inside the area to equalise before Eilidh Austin’s goal completed the turnaround for the Gers in extra time in a 2-1 victory.
The result means the Light Blues will contest Saturday’s Champions League second qualifying round final and the defender shared her delight at full-time, “I am extremely proud of the team, she said.
“I think when we came into this obviously our objective was to win the game.
“They score first and kind of put us on the back foot, but I thought the team and everyone were excellent in terms of the way we fought for each other, the aggression all over the pitch and that is something that we have been working on behind the scenes to make sure that we are all on the same page.
“We obviously had those tough pre-season friendlies but that has definitely set us up in good stead, I thought everyone was excellent and I am extremely proud of the group.
“Probably the last time I scored a volley I was about 15 years old so probably about 15 years ago to be honest, but anything to help the team.
“It is usually obviously the girls up top that are scoring the goals for us but it was two full-backs that have come up with the clutch but regardless of that I don't care whether I score or not as long as we win the game.
“I thought everyone out with that were excellent.”
The skipper was full of praise for the supporters who made the trip along to Broadwood on the night to help the hosts get that extra boost in getting over the line.
She continued: “The fans were first class, as they have been over the previous years. It was great to see the amount of numbers that they have come to the game.
“I know it is a late one a 7:30 kick off but the fans were top tier. They turned out in their numbers and we heard them and they helped us every step of the way to make sure that we got that result.
“What we had spoken about before the game is we want to progress and that was the objective and we have certainly went and done that.
“Yes there has been parts of the game where we have adversity, just some of their challenges and stuff but I thought the girls stood up and really were accountable and made sure that we were on top as well in those moments when we were maybe on the back foot and I said that to the girls.
“When they were getting corners and stuff we are going to need to ride the storm at certain points, this is Champions League football, they are a top quality side as well but the girls were excellent all over the pitch.
“Even the girls that came off the bench, Bailley [Collins], Fallon [Connolly-Jackson], Sophie Black that came on to see the game out for us as well so just really proud of everyone.”
Ajax now stand in the way of Leanne Crichton’s side for a place in the play-off round with the captain sharing her excitement for that occasion that now awaits.
She added: “We are really looking forward to it; the performance will certainly give us confidence going into that game.
“We know that it is Ajax, we are going to respect them, we know that they are a top quality side, they are in the Champions League for a reason, but we'll go back into the Training Centre and make sure that we recover.
“We have obviously played extra time but we have had a really tough pre-season so I am really sure that the girls will be more than ready for Saturday. We have got really good fitness in the group at the moment and as much as we have got respect for the opponent Ajax, we back ourselves as well.”
