The Light Blues showed how hard they have been working on their fitness and their tactical and technical work in Wednesday’s win over Motherwell, and boss Gerrard will be looking for similar this afternoon.
Allan McGregor comes in today, with Jon McLaughlin switching to the bench for what is sure to be another good test against the Championship newcomers after they were handed promotion at the conclusion of last season.
In front of McGregor, James Tavernier, George Edmundson, Connor Goldson, Ianis Hagi, Ryan Jack, Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos and Borna Barisic complete the XI. The manager has plenty of options open to him from the bench this afternoon, and there could be a first appearance of Filip Helander since December last year following his recovery from injury.
Alongside Swedish international Helander are the aforementioned McLaughlin, Calvin Bassey, Jamie Murphy, Nathan Patterson, Brandon Barker, Greg Stewart, Ross McCrorie, Jamie Barjonas, Scott Arfield and Josh McPake.
