HEARTS CURRENT FORM
After a run of four games without victory, Hearts have responded with back-to-back wins ahead of their trip to Ibrox.
Indeed, the Gorgie club defeated Motherwell last time out despite having a player sent off in the first half, with Lawrence Shankland netting an 89th minute penalty in a 3-2 victory.
The result moved Hearts level on points with city rivals Hibernian in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership ahead of their penultimate fixture before the World Cup break.
MANAGER FOCUS
The Jambos are managed by former player Robbie Neilson, who returned to Tynecastle for a second stint in the summer of 2020 after spells in charge of MK Dons and Dundee United.
Neilson is currently the second longest serving manager in the Scottish Premiership after Callum Davidson and the 42-year-old immediately led Hearts to a third place finish last season following their promotion from the second tier.
STYLE OF PLAY
Hearts have been flexible in their use of formations this season, using a four-man defensive system to good effect after experiencing considerable success with a back three last term.
The summer addition of Lawrence Shankland to the attack has strengthened the team going forward, with the Scotland international netting 12 goals in 21 appearances so far this season.
KEY PLAYER
Shankland’s strike from the penalty spot against Motherwell last time out made it five goals in his last three appearances in the Scottish Premiership, underling his importance to Robbie Neilson’s side.
The 27-year-old joined Hearts from Belgian side Beerschot VA over the summer and has wasted no time in finding his shooting boots, while also scoring twice in his side’s UEFA Europa Conference League group stage campaign.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Hearts were the opponents when Rangers lifted their 34th Scottish Cup back in May at Hampden, with Ryan Jack and Scott Wright notching extra time goals in the 2-0 victory.
The Light Blues also made it four straight league victories over the Gorgie side with a resounding 4-0 triumph at Tynecastle in October.
Antonio Colak netted a terrific first half double, with goals from Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent capping off a fine attacking performance.
