“PARLANE, Parlane, born is the King of Ibrox Park!”

A refrain you’d often hear from the steep slopes of Rangers’ home ground in the 1970s – and on this night, it was absolutely true.

18 year-old Derek Parlane, making just his seventh appearance and indeed, his first in Europe, became an instant icon of the Light Blues’ support with the second goal in the 1972 Cup Winners’ Cup, semi-final win over a world-class Bayern Munich side.

It really launched his Rangers career, and he’d go on to be a major part of the club’s success as the 1970s progressed.

He’s been recalling his memories of an incredible night in the club’s history in a special edition of the Official Rangers Podcast.
