Patterson Makes His Debut

COMPETITIVE football returns for Rangers tonight as the Light Blues take on Stranraer in the Scottish Cup – and boss Steven Gerrard has named seven changes to his side.

From the team which so memorably defeated Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in their last ‘real’ run-out on December 29, out go Allan McGregor, the ill James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos.

They are replaced in the XI tonight by Wes Foderingham, 18 year-old Nathan Patterson for his debut, George Edmundson, Andy Halliday, Scott Arfield, fit-again Jordan Jones and Jermain Defoe.

Foderingham makes his fifth appearance of the season between the sticks, while debutant Patterson, Edmundson, Nikola Katic and Halliday make up the back four.

Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Arfield are in midfield, while up-front, Jones and Joe Aribo will play in support of Defoe.

There’s a mixture of youth and experience on the bench for Gers tonight, with Academy players Lewis Mayo and Kai Kennedy hoping for a debut, and they are alongside Andy Firth, Sheyi Ojo, Jon Flanagan, Brandon Barker and Matt Polster.

It’s a 7:45pm kick-off this evening, and full coverage is available on RangersTV. Join Tom Miller and Ian Durrant if you’re outside the UK.
