With a number of chances for the Light Blues, the manager knows his side could have scored more, but he was happy with the reaction from his team as they progressed to the quarter-finals.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Clement said: “It was well-deserved to qualify, but we should've scored more goals and that is what you want to give the fans. Scoring four or five goals was possible today with the offensive play and good actions but we didn’t have enough efficiency.
“That's why it was important to score the second one and Ross did that in a really good way, so it was a positive evening. It was a good reaction after the disappointment of Tuesday and all the fans who were here were very positive towards the team and really supportive from the first second until the last second and we hope to get more and more fans back in that way.”
For Dessers, it was his third goal in four games, and Clement praised his number 9 for continuing to raise his level over the past few months.
He continued: “He is a player who has made a really big evolution in these last seven months together. We have been working on several things with him, but he is picking up those and he is becoming better in the link-up play, keeping balls and scoring goals.
“His mentality has always been magnificent, he is somebody who wants to die for this shirt so those are important players for the team, he had a lot of stick in the first months that he was here, but I think we see a striker who will compete with the best this season to become the top scorer.”
On keeping a clean sheet, Clement added: “We knew St Johnstone were waiting for those few moments to be lethal, and Jack [Butland] also made a few good saves in that way.
“It is a team effort, but it is important for the team that we qualify, score goals and don’t concede and now it is about working to repeat those things.
“Our offensive movements, our running without the ball, the passing, the running lines and to be more efficient and then we will go to our best level, but it is a normal trajectory at this stage of August.”
