Philippe Clement: Pleased With Ruthless Display

PHILIPPE CLEMENT was pleased with the ruthless display from his side as Rangers ran out impressive 6-0 winners over Ross County this afternoon.

Doubles from both Cyriel Dessers and Rabbi Matondo as well as Tom Lawrence and Danilo strikes sent the Light Blues on their way to three points in their biggest victory in four years.

Speaking to RangersTV after the match the manager says his team are constantly growing and praised them for their showing at Hampden Park.

He commented: “What pleased me most? A lot of things because it is about all the details that we have been working on for weeks and months.

“You see a young talented team who get to know each other better and better and understand all the details better and better and then you get good results if the efficiency is there.

“It was there in moments; it could have also been more today but you see more and more the football we want to play and with a lot of movement without the ball and people being in the right positions.

“I am very glad about that with for example the two goals of Cyriel [Dessers], I think it is a big difference from six months ago the way he runs now, how he finds the spaces.

“What we have been working on but also with Rabbi [Matondo] for example, who is now in front of goal and then he is decisive and gives two assists.

“It is difficult to take two players out to give credit towards that because they're a lot of players making a good evolution in the last couple of months and we need to continue in that way and keep this hunger and desire to become better.

“That is what I want and what I tell them every time.

“I am not satisfied with one result I want players who always want to do better and not to concede goals also.

“That is also an important part so on that side keeping the zero is also a very important point from today, with playing offensive but all the time out of an organisation and that it is clear for everybody.

“We need to continue in that way the next weeks and months and then the only way is to grow as a team and as a squad.”

The Belgian was full of praise for frontman Cyriel Dessers, who racked up five goals in his last five games with his brace and his boss says he’s in the best form of his career.

He continued: “He deserves it, he is doing a very good job.

“This is the best Cyriel that I have seen in his career until now and he is somebody who is hungry to play for his shirt and someone who is also hungry to learn to become better.

“He is not 20 years old anymore but he stays hungry to learn all the details and you see in several details he is becoming better and better by doing it and by watching the videos and to talk about it.”

The manager highlighted the team’s clean sheet in the game as they limited their opposition throughout, whilst crediting the fans for their support on a dominant afternoon for his side.

He added: “Jack [Butland] made one really important save in the beginning of the game.

“I also don't forget that but he is also important in keeping the team sharp and not sloppy in these moments when you are leading. It is easy if it 2-0 and half time to chill and to relax and to be happy with that.

“We didn't want that; I didn't want that. I demanded to play to score more goals and as much as possible to entertain the fans.

“To give the fans the best we can give them and like this you also see that the fans are very happy and there was a really good atmosphere in the stadium because of that.”
