Goals from Hamza Igamane, Vaclav Cerny and Mohamed Diomande had Rangers three goals ahead at the break and Clement was happy with his squad’s efficiency and composure in the opening 45 minutes.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “Efficiency is so crucial and composure in the final third and that is what we did in the first-half, it could've been more also.
“In the second-half we still had a few chances but less composure and St Johnstone came a little bit more into the game and our level dropped. I am not happy with that because I wanted the same second-half as the first-half so there are things to work on.
“It has to do with players thinking too much, and also players coming back from injury, or not playing so much the last couple of weeks. They were thinking too much instead of running, fighting and making the runs that we have to do.
“Those are things to work on in the next couple of weeks to get that confidence back also with these guys. There's one place to get this confidence and that is on the pitch and proving that when your time comes that you are ready.”
With a number of defensive injuries in the squad, Clinton Nsiala made his Ibrox debut this afternoon, while Ridvan continued to take up the right-back position. Clement was happy with both those players and how they have stepped in in recent games.
He continued: “Clinton is coming out of youth football, he played his first game at Dundee a few days ago, and today he showed composure, the right things on the ball and off the ball so that is a really big step forward.
“It was necessary with all the injured players at the back, Ridvan at right full-back also it is not easy to play against your foot, but he is doing the role very well.
“The rest of the team are doing the things that we want to see, getting more threat in front of goal, more runs without the ball than against Dundee so the focus was on that and they delivered in a really good way in the first-half.”
When asked about using this game to build on, with Aberdeen next-up at Ibrox on Wednesday evening, Clement added: “Build is a strange way, because two weeks ago we had a fantastic Old Firm here, but after that we lost too much in those away games, and it is about on Wednesday performing again like we did in the first-half.
“Aberdeen are a good team, so it is going to be a tough game, and I hope all the fans can get behind the team and give that extra energy also in that game.”
