It was the final match before the winter break, and the Gers boss was delighted with the dominance shown by his side as goals from Ross McCausland, Abdallah Sima and Todd Cantwell secured maximum points.
Kilmarnock’s goal came from the penalty spot following a VAR handball check and despite frustration over the decision, the manager said he will remember the positives from today’s game.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “We knew Kilmarnock had won several games against the Old Firm this year, three out of four so they are a tough opponent to break open and to win against, so I am even more proud of the way the boys did it today.
“We were the dominant team, we created a lot of chances and three good goals but the only downside for me is that I cannot explain to my players any more what handball is or not.
“If we get a penalty against like this and a goal against like this, three days after what happened at Celtic Park, I cannot give them an explanation and that is difficult as a manager when you cannot give an explanation. There were really positive things about the side, and those are the things I will remember.
“There was a lot of good combination play from the team, everybody is getting used to what we want and there is much more movement and a much higher tempo than in the beginning and that is normal also.
“We talked about that in the beginning when we started the story together that it would take some time to get used to the movements and then it becomes faster and more natural so that is good also.
“Players like Nico [Raskin] could get some minutes, Fabio [Silva] could have his first experience of Ibrox that he enjoyed and other players like Scott [Wright] and Rabbi [Matondo] got some minutes.
“Now the players deserve their break for a few days, they will have a programme of course, but they deserve this break because they have been working hard with these games and we are going to make a really tough training camp in La Manga to make them better.”
Reflecting on a hectic festive period, Clement says it is ‘quite exceptional’ the turnaround from the squad as he looks to continue to build after the winter break.
He continued: “I think it is quite exceptional the way the team has reacted after the difficult start to the season. Winning the first trophy, qualifying in first place in the Europa League group and taking a lot of points.
“In this period, we took the most points in the league, so we need to continue in that way and work hard. Everybody is doing that in the building, there's a lot of solidarity, there's no ego for the moment, so I will be really controlling that it stays like this because the players feel now if they do that then they have a lot of joy and a lot of happiness.”
