The Gers take on Celtic at the Excelsior stadium as the league’s top two face off with two points currently separating the sides in the table.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the Old Firm match the head coach said: “They are important, we know that the league can be swung in these games. We also know that there is games that are close throughout the season as well. The likes of Hibs and Hearts and everybody else that can cause upsets.
“We know we need to be consistent in our performances, in our winning mentality and winning those games throughout. This is where it really kicks in now and we will see what we are made of and how we can really go toe to toe with Celtic.
“It is obviously my first one up here, competitive one. We had the friendly in pre-season which was the Glasgow Cup but I am more than looking forward to it. We know what they have brought in the past and we know what it means to both teams but we are just looking to get on with the game and continue our processes.”
The Gers have the chance to head into the international break top of the table after the first round of games and the head coach has encouraged her side to continue their fine goal scoring form of late.
She continued: “Anytime you can get the opportunity to go top of the league we more than welcome it. Which means we are doing well, which means we are progressing the way we are. If we don't I still don't think we are a million miles away and we know we can get there. We know that we will get there at some point. It is just one of those early games in the season that everyone is looking forward too.
“That is something that I have even mentioned to the players today. I want to see it; I don't want to see that change. I want to see us maintain that ruthlessness in front of goal and just creating those opportunities as well, because we are still creating many more chances than maybe what we are putting away in the net. I want to still see that high level of goalscoring chances created, I want us to not feel the pressure and to make sure we go out there and try put on a performance.”
Potter hopes the experience of playing at Ibrox in their victory over Hibs last weekend will help prepare the team for the occasion that awaits in Airdrie.
She added: “The thing is we try to recreate these in different games. Make sure that we are not changing how we're leading up to the game too much. We know as soon as we step out onto the pitch it can look very different.
“The game at Ibrox last week should have hopefully given the players a bit of pressure stepping onto a big stage, playing in front of a bigger crowd. Hopefully they can take that confidence moving forward into this game and not feel it too much.”
