Rangers begin their season away to Spartans as the head coach prepares for her first league match in charge.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the opener Potter feels the team are ready to go as they look to get off to a winning start in the capital.
She said: “We can't wait to get going, even though it's been a short pre-season it feels like it's been forever, we are excited and ready to go. I think we have had a good couple of results in pre-season which puts us in good stead going into the game but we are not getting too far ahead of ourselves, we know how tough it is still going to be.”
The former England international admits there have been a lot of changes that she has tried to implement in the team’s style since taking charge but has been impressed with how the squad have adapted so far.
She continued: “There has been a lot of change, even just myself and another member of staff coming just breads change anyway, but I have tried to change the style up, and tried to change a way of playing. I wanted them to play a little bit more structured, I wanted them to have more structure behind the ball, out of possession and in possession, along with that came a formation change but they took it on board brilliantly.
“It is one thing I noticed when I first came in, I wasn't keen to try and put too much change onto them and force it too early, but they were soaking it up like sponges so I was really happy with how that has gone.
“It will still take time, I think it could still be better, I didn't expect it to be as good as it is right now. I am not saying it's great but I didn't expect it to go as well as it has with that change, but I still expect them to be better in the coming months with that as well.”
The 38-year-old has reflected on her time in charge of the side so far and believes the team are in for a tough test when they take on the Edinburgh side at Ainslie Park this weekend.
She added: “It has been great, I think it is important that you know the pressures that come along with being a Rangers head coach, and we feel that within ourselves anyway. We feel that within this group, but I think it is something that you either crumble under or you thrive upon, and for me, I am just trying to make sure we do the same things week in and week out that I know that has worked previously. I am starting to see them coming to fruition up here as well so I am happy.
“It is going to be a tough test; we know that they are physical and they hit the front line really well. We have done our work on them this week so now we have got to be ready on transition, but what we have done out on the training pitch I am happy with that and how we are going to go into the game.”
