Goldson was a rock at the back for the Light Blues as they secured three points from their first Europa League Group G match, with Swedish centre-half Helander just as impressive on his European debut for the club.
Speaking post-match for RangersTV, Connor said: “It was very pleasing. We were playing against a tough team but I think we went into it as underdogs for many people. At the same time we had the belief that we could do what we did.
“I think it’s a lot easier in Europe. Teams want to play football and it allows us to do our press and get after teams.
“Obviously it is harder in the league. Teams won’t really be as adventurous against us as we are one of the bigger teams, but in Europe I think it suits our playing style down to a tee.
“I feel first five minutes they were strong and they started strong and it showed a lot about the team the way that we bounced back from that [the missed penalty].
“I think once we got our tails up we just didn’t stop and I think we pressed them for the whole 45 minutes. The plan was to go after them for the first 15 and get the crowd up. But I think as a team we smelled it was there to go after them for the whole 45.
On Helander’s impressive display, he added: “It’s tough obviously coming in; I think that was his first real big test as a Rangers player.
“Niko and I have played the majority of the European ties and the league games, but I thought he was brilliant. He came in, marshalled the defence well, he spoke to me the whole game – we spoke to each other the whole game – and we made sure we were solid. As I said we limited a good team to very few chances.”
Sheyo Ojo was the match-winner this evening with his stunning 23rd minute strike beating Feyenoord goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer. Goldson said: “I’m happy for him. He had another one a few minutes later that would have made it a lot easier, but it was a great goal, a great strike, and I feel like at that time we need it because we were on top.”
