The Light Blues trailed not once, but twice, as all three points appeared to be heading to Parkhead, but the Ibrox side showed their character to earn a point thanks to Matondo's sumptuous leveller.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, the 23-year-old commented: "It wasn't the ideal start from us, but the way we got back into the game in the second half; the fight that we showed, and the mentality to get us back into a game that was sticky at the start.
"I just want to be positive in everything that I do and work hard for the team.
"To be fair, I said to the boys that I needed to come up with something.
"I'm grateful to score a goal like that in a game like this, and I'm glad I could help the team and contribute something special like the goal.
"I ran towards the gaffer at the end. He asked me before the game if I had saw Kevin de Bruyne's goal [yesterday], and I replied that I had saw it.
"He always says to me every time I've been working hard, cutting in, and he's always told me to go low into the corners.
“He told me to show what I can do, and I told him that I would show him today.
“I was joking with him, but I scored that type of goal [like de Bruyne] so it was a bit of inside banter between me and the gaffer!
"I'm buzzing in the end and, yeah, we'll take the result."
Philippe Clement's side were left with it all to do in the second half after goals from Daizen Maeda and Matt O'Riley put the away side in a commanding position.
But Matondo credited the leadership group within the Rangers dressing room for rallying the side to produce a much-improved second half showing.
He added: "He [the manager] got onto us at half-time and said the team that he has been working with for five months, that's not what he was seeing.
“But we took his words on board, went out there, and showed what we've been working on.
"We started to play better, and it was very good in the second half.
"We're in a good way. It was difficult in the first half, but the way we came out in the second half, and the way the experienced boys got us going, from then on everyone was on it.
"It was good to watch from the bench and I was glad I was able to contribute something."
