Rachel McLauchlan Excited For Furture After Joining Rangers

RACHEL McLauchlan says she is excited for the future at Rangers after joining the club from Glasgow City.

The right-back is now officially a Gers player, having signed a pre-contract in summer 2020.

The 23-year-old admits the one club ethos, the facilities, coaching staff and the squad all played part in her decision to join the club.

Speaking to RangersTV prior to lockdown, she said: “I am really excited about being here, the club and the set-up all looked great even before coming.

“Now I have started to see things in the last couple of weeks it is really great and I am really excited for the rest of the season and what is to come.

“I was looking for what I thought was the next step. I am obviously only 23-years-old so I am still quite young in football so I wanted to improve.

“When I spoke to Rangers I just felt that that was the next step to be able to do that with what they had here, the club, the facilities, the coaching staff and the players.

McLauchlan who featured as a winger while at Hibs and Yeovil, converted to full-back during her time at Glasgow City.

In her two games prior to the winter break at the Gers, McLauchlan slotted in and right-back and says she enjoys that role and the competition within the squad.

She continued: “I quite like the defending side of it and that dirty bit so it is probably why I prefer it there but at the same time if I am at full-back I like attacking and going forward when I get the chance to.

“I think you can see that in all different kinds of games full-backs are now quite attacking and I think no matter who plays there we have got that on our right side and left side so I think that is quite a strength to have.

“If you don't have someone pushing you you are not really going to improve so I think we all know the strengths we have.

“Whether you are playing or on the bench you know that the players coming on are going to do just as well as the players going off which is only a good thing.

“I think when we were playing Motherwell there was a bit of thought about hopefully we are all going to gel in, we are all new, but I think everything really clicked.

“Everyone has been amazing for us coming in and have made us feel really home so I think that helped us all click on the pitch because we all get on so well off the pitch so it has been great.”

McLauchlan can’t wait to get back into league action after the winter break on January 17th.

She said: “It feels funny it finishing as soon as we have come in. All the excitement has been there so I kind of wanted it to continue but we have done so well in the last two weeks and the girls have been doing great the whole season.

“It is really exciting to know that we are coming back in and still have two-thirds of the season to play for so I am really looking forward to it.”
