The positive thing for Dick Advocaat is that his men look very sharp up front. The movement off the ball from Neil McCann, Billy Dodds and Rod Wallace is fantastic and they’re scoring.
That’s something they did at Ibrox on Saturday as Rangers cruised to a comfortable victory over Jimmy Calderwood’s Dunfermline side, Former Gers Ian Ferguson and Barry Nicholson were in the Pars line-up and they discovered that the best way to win at Ibrox is to remain in Light Blue.
I thought it was a good first 45 minutes and the goals – from Jorg Albertz (pen), Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Dodds and Wallace – were terrific but the bottom line is it was far too easy. That’s why if anybody was in doubt over whether or not Rangers should join a European League then I think Saturday’s game would have told them it MUST happen.
We need better opposition because Rangers are so far in front of the Dunfermline’s of this world that it’s becoming frightening. Advocaat and David Murray said last week that the Scottish game could die within two years if something drastic doesn’t happen on Saturday you could see exactly why.
There were almost 48,000 fans inside Ibrox at the weekend and it must have been MURDER for them. You simply can’t keep them going year after year playing teams like this. Thankfully, Rangers are 3-0 up from the first leg against Herfolge and look certain to go through to the Champions League after tonight’s leg at Ibrox.
But can you imagine if they were 3-0 down and looked like going out! What would there be to play for this season?
Exactly! We need a European League NOW!
