Rangers B 3-1 Brechin City

RANGERS B team won 3-1 against Brechin City in a friendly match at the training centre this evening.

A first-half double from Chris McKee and a goal from Dapo Mebude saw the Gers 3-0 up at the interval, before Brechin got a goal back from a free-kick in the second-half.

With international break this week, a number of players who are part of the first-team bubble came into the line-up for the match.

Andy Firth was in goal for the Gers, with Jamie Barjonas, Leon King, and Ciaran Dickson also coming into the starting line-up.

The Gers had their first chance at goal inside the opening five minutes as Jamie Barjonas won the ball back on the edge of the box to find the run of Chris McKee but his low shot was just wide of the target.

On the 9th minute Rangers had the ball in the back of the net but it was flagged for offside. Ben Williamson’s shot from outside the box was spilled by the goalkeeper with the linesman raising his flag as Nathan Young-Coombes tapped home the rebound.

Ciaran Dickson was next to have a shot for the Light Blues as his effort from the edge of the box was held by the Brechin goalkeeper.

The early pressure paid off on the 20th minutes as Chris McKee’s shot from the corner of the box took a deflection to beat the goalkeeper and give Rangers the lead.

Just a minute later it was two for the Gers as McKee controlled a long-ball over the top before firing a dangerous cross across the face of goal which was turned behind by Dapo Mebude.

Brechin had their first chance from a set-piece on the edge of the box but Andy Firth got a strong hand to the curling effort to push it wide.

The Brechin goalkeeper pulled off a good save shortly after as he got down to save a strike from Nathan Young-Coombes.

Rangers had a third just before the interval as Dapo Mebude drove into the Brechin half before picking out Chris McKee who curled a powerful shot into the back of the net from the edge of the box.

The visitors threatened at the start of the second-half as a header drifted just wide from a Brechin corner.

On the 50th minute, Harris O’Connor picked out Nathan Young-Coombes with a cross from the left, but the striker’s effort bounced back off the crossbar.

Five minutes later, Kevin Thomson and Brian Gilmour made three changes to the side as Kyle McClelland, Adam Devine and Ben Williamson were replaced by Murray Miller, Cole McKinnon and Robbie Fraser.

Ciaran Dickson drilled a shot just wide for Rangers as they continued their search for a fourth goal.

In a host of changes for the Gers, Alex Lowry, Ross McCausland and Umaro Balde all came on for the raining

On the 77th minute Brechin got a goal back as a curling free-kick from the edge of the box went in off the post.
