Rangers Head Into Second Year of Universal Centre of Sport Partnership

RANGERS Football Club and Universal Centre of Sport are preparing to head into the second year of their unique partnership offering higher education at Ibrox Stadium.

The BSc Sports Coaching programme is the first of its kind in Scotland to offer university age provision via UCS lecturers, with Rangers providing additional industry work experience across areas such as coaching, scouting, match analysis and life as a player/athlete.

Applications are open for the next year of students who will begin studying in September 2022.

Scott Edgar, Senior Soccer Academies Executive said: “We are running a BSc in sports coaching with UCS, they have a lot of sites over England and we are really excited to be the first of its kind in this country.

“With the nature of this course the students get first-hand experience within an industry leader so they are going to get that vital work experience alongside their studies and hopefully when they leave the course they have the employability skills to help them secure jobs.”

Glen Maybury, UCS Higher Education Lead, continued: “We have been delivering programmes for the last four years or so now, we work throughout the UK with a number of different campuses so to venture into Scotland and work with a huge club such as Rangers is really exciting.

“The aim of the programme is to provide the stepping stone into further coaching, employability and management skills. It is not just the education side of things we look at everything from work experience to employability.

“We have utilised guest speakers from the club for the psychology module looking at team dynamics so we had the women's first-team manager Malky Thomson speak to the guys for that module.”
