The meeting confirmed the realignment of the SWPL 1, where twelve teams will now compete to become champions. The AGM also confirmed the creation of the SWPL 2 where eight teams will enter the league to battle it out in the second-tier championship.
With the appointment of the board of directors and 20 teams confirmed across the two leagues, it is the beginning of an exciting new format created with the aim to develop professional women’s football across the country.
Women’s and Girls’ Football Manager Amy McDonald said: "This is an incredibly important and historic moment for women’s football across Scotland.
"I am delighted to be part of the first club-appointed directors to the SWPL board and excited to see the first 20 clubs compete across the two leagues in their inaugural campaign next season.
"This is a monumental step for professional women’s football across the country and one I am honoured to be a part of. A lot of hard work has been put in to reach this moment, and it is important that Scottish women’s football continues to strive for success." The clubs set to form the SWPL are:
