RANGERS faced Partick Thistle in their first pre-season friendly this afternoon in a 3-2 victory at Rangers Training Centre.
There was a mix of first team and Academy players involved as the squad got their first minutes under their belt ahead of next week’s camp in Portugal.
Rangers lined-up with Jon McLaughlin in goal and a back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Leon King and Adam Devine.
John Lundstram was joined in midfield by Alex Lowry and Scott Arfield, while Glenn Middleton and Scott Wright supported striker Fashion Sakala.
At a rainy Auchenhowie, the opening goal came just a few minutes into the match as Scott Wright cut the ball into the box from the right, with James Tavernier taking a touch before it fell for John Lundstram who fired a powerful shot into the back of the net.
Brian Graham equalised with 15 minutes on the clock before Scott Arfield was denied from close range from a Scott Wright cross.
Wright was involved again just five minutes before half-time as he picked out Fashion Sakala in the box and he tapped home to give Rangers the advantage at half-time.
There were 11 changes at the break for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side as a whole new team lined-up for the second-half.
Robby McCrorie was in goal, with a back four of Mateusz Zukowski, James Sands, Nikola Katic and Jack Simpson.
Cole McKinnon, Stephen Kelly and Charlie McCann were in midfield with Josh McPake, Tony Weston and Ross McCausland making up the front three.
Cammy Smith equalised for the Championship side early in the second-half with a low strike, before Cole McKinnon saw an effort saved at the other end.
There was one further change for Rangers on the 65th minute as Robbie Ure replaced Tony Weston for the final 25 minutes.
With just five minutes of the game remaining, Josh McPake drilled a powerful low effort into the bottom corner of the net to see the match finish 3-2 to Rangers.
