Rangers Loan Review

RANGERS have a number of players out on loan across the Men’s and Academy sides this season.

Here’s our review of how each of those fared over their most recent outings.

Ben Davies – Birmingham City

Ben played the full 90 minutes as Birmingham were held to a goalless draw away to Reading on Saturday afternoon.

The draw brought the Blues’ four-game winning run to a halt, although the side still look well-placed to secure automatic promotion with Ben continuing to play a key role.

Kieran Dowell – Birmingham City

Kieran, too, played the full game for the Midlands club in the weekend stalemate.

Operating in an advanced midfield role, the 27-year-old was unable to help his side unpick the Reading defence as their unbeaten run continued.

Rabbi Matondo – Hannover 96

Rabbi was a second half substitute as Hannover played out a 1-1 draw at home to Paderborn.

It was a fourth successive draw for the side since Rabbi joined on loan in January, with the Welshman continuing to gain valuable minutes.

Jose Cifuentes – Aris Thessaloniki

Jose started as Aris returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-1 triumph over Panetolikos.

The victory was a fourth in the last five for Jose and his teammates who are currently nestled in fifth-place in the Greek Super League standings.

Cole McKinnon – Ayr United

Cole started and played 61 minutes as Ayr suffered a last-gasp defeat to Livingston at Somerset Park on Saturday afternoon.

The midfielder has been a mainstay in the side since making the loan switch last month and, despite the defeat, the Honest Men still harbour realistic hopes of promotion to the Scottish Premiership this season.

Robbie Fraser – Livingston

Robbie was an unused substitute in the victory for Livingston in Ayrshire.

The full-back had started the previous four games for David Martindale’s side and will hope to be involved this evening as the Lions host Greenock Morton.

Lewis Budinauckas – Partick Thistle

Lewis joined Partick Thistle on loan until the end of the season on Thursday and went immediately into the side for the Jags’ 1-1 draw with Airdrieonians.

Now 22-years-old, the goalkeeper will hope to be a mainstay in the Thistle side in their push for promotion this term.

Archie Stevens – Dunfermline Athletic

Archie started and played 85 minutes as Dunfermline drew a blank at home to Queen’s Park on Saturday afternoon.

Indeed, it was a second successive goalless draw for the Pars, with Archie proving one of the side’s standout performers since joining on loan.

Jay Hogarth – Dunfermline Athletic

Jay joined the Pars on an emergency seven-day loan prior to Saturday’s fixture and was on the bench for the home draw with the Spiders.

Dunfermline travel to face Hamilton Academical this evening and the young goalkeeper will be involved in the squad once again.

Adam Devine – Queen’s Park

Adam returned from suspension to play the full 90 minutes for Queen’s Park in their draw with Dunfermline.

In doing so, the 21-year-old made his second appearance for the Glasgow outfit as he looks to firmly establish in Callum Davidson’s side.

Kieran Wright – Airdrieonians

Kieran made his 13th consecutive league start for the Diamonds in their 1-1 draw at Firhill on Saturday.

The draw marked a fourth league game without defeat for Airdrieonians, who have stemmed their long losing run but still sit ten points adrift at the foot of the Championship table.

Josh Gentles – Alloa Athletic

Josh registered his fourth goal contribution in his last four starts for Alloa in their dramatic 4-3 away victory over Annan Athletic at the weekend.

The 17-year-old slotted home the Wasps’ third goal at the weekend, sweeping home from a pull-back to continue his excellent start to life in League One.

Blaine McClure – Kelty Hearts

Blaine played the full 90 minutes as Kelty Hearts suffered a home defeat to Inverness.

The 18-year-old has now started his side’s last two games as he continues to make a strong impression in his first loan spell in senior football.

Kristian Webster – Dumbarton

Kristian started and played 90 minutes as Dumbarton fell to a 2-1 defeat to Cove Rangers.

The Sons are still searching for their first victory since the defender joined on loan as they sit 17 points adrift of safety.

Leyton Grant – Stirling Albion

Leyton continued his run at the heart of the Binos defence as Stirling Albion fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Stranraer.

The 18-year-old central defender has enjoyed a strong loan spell with the League Two side as they look to secure their play-off place in the coming months.

Jack Harkness – Stirling Albion

Jack also played the full 90 minutes in the Binos’ defeat to Stranraer.

The 21-year-old had scored twice in his last two games and he will be keen to help his side bounce back when they host East Fife this weekend.

Darren McInally – Cumbernauld Colts

Darren started and played the full 90 minutes as Cumbernauld Colts edged Albion Rovers away from home on Saturday afternoon.

It was a first full game for the 20-year-old midfielder since joining the Lowland League side on loan as he looks to build consistency in playing time.

Jacob Pazikas – Gala Fairydean Rovers

Jacob, meanwhile, made his third successive start for Gala Fairydean Rovers as they played out a 2-2 draw with Bo’ness United.

The 20-year-old is still searching for his first clean sheet since joining the Lowland League side on loan but is continuing to gain valuable minutes after a fruitful loan spell with Civil Service Strollers last term.
