More than 150 children attended the event by the arts organisation, with support from Scottish football legends and Glasgow Life, as they aimed to inspire young people to learn about the power of the mind through the power of the game.
Howat led the warm-up for the youngsters and said the unique competition was much needed in Glasgow and helped address growing mental health concerns in the city.
She continued: “We all know sports are a massive part of people's lives. It’s great to see kids being able to speak about mental health, play football, and have fun on the pitch.”
Portraits of the young people were taken by local photographer Miriam Ali and put on display at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, where WSWF is currently exhibiting its touring exhibition, Journey of the Mind (JoTM).
Howat continued: “I’m looking forward to seeing the exhibition at Kelvingrove. Events like Glasgow Minds are what we need. They help keep kids off the streets and engage with them in a positive and safe manner.“
Ameet Singh, Community Engagement Manager of WSWF added: “Glasgow is so passionate about football, so we wanted to bring kids what they love and engage with them on that level.
“A lot of kids suffer from a lot of mental health issues, anxiety, self-identify issues and we wanted to showcase that you are wonderful the way you are, that you are special, and we hear you and we want to do something for you.”
