RANGERS Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Rachel Rowe from Reading, subject to international clearance.
The attacking midfielder, who has spent time in her career playing in a left full-back role becomes Jo Potter’s third signing of the summer transfer window as preparations continue ahead of the 2023/24 season.
A product of Swansea’s youth academy Rowe began her senior professional career with rivals Cardiff. Spending a season at the Welsh side she was part of the team that won the Welsh Premier Women's Football League in the 2012/13 season, scoring on the final day of the campaign in a 5-2 win over Wrexham.
Rowe returned to the side where she broke through in the summer transfer window that season however she missed the first half of the campaign through injury.
The versatile midfielder made the move to her former club Reading in February 2015 on a part-time basis before agreeing full-time terms in December that year following the club's promotion to the FA Women's Super League, going on to make over 100 appearances for the Royals.
The 30-year-old represented her country at U17 and U19 level, before making her Wales debut for the senior side in a UEFA Women's Euro 2017 qualifying match against Austria starting in a 3–0 defeat. She has gone on to make 49 caps for Wales to date, scoring on three occasions.
Speaking after making the move to Rangers, Rowe said: “It feels amazing, it is a bit surreal, I am really excited to be joining the club. I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet so I am kind of still going through the emotions a bit.”
Women’s head coach Jo Potter also commented: “I think it is a huge signing for us as a club, with Rachel’s wealth of experience that she has got both at domestic and international level I think it is going to be vital for her to come in and showcase her talents.
“She is an experienced and exciting player to watch, she brings a lot of energy as well as a lot of quality and you will be able to see that on the pitch, I am really looking forward to bringing Rachel in.”
