Rangers Strongly Represented In PFA Scotland Team of the Year

RANGERS are strongly represented in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year selections across the Men’s and Women’s this year.

Fellow professionals from the Scottish Premiership and ScottishPower Women’s Premier League have been casting their votes, with the Gers boasting seven representatives across the two teams.

Here are all those selected below:

JACK BUTLAND

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has been worth his weight in gold for the Light Blues this term after making the switch from south of the border.

Indeed, the England international’s catalogue of heroic and highlight-reel worthy stops is only continuing to grow as the business end of the campaign approaches.

Philippe Clement’s side boast the strongest defensive record in the division having conceded only 23 goals, with Butland’s consistency between the posts forming the backbone of the current Gers side.

JAMES TAVERNIER

The captain’s attacking contributions from full-back continue to defy belief, tormenting opposing defences with his penchant for the spectacular and knack for popping up at the right place.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed another 20-plus campaign infront of goal, netting six times in as many outings from the beginning of October to the end of November as manager Philippe Clement was welcomed to the club.

Tavernier also led the Light Blues to victory in the Viaplay Cup in December, providing the decisive goal in the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen in the final at Hampden Park.

JOHN LUNDSTRAM

The midfielder is closing in on 50 appearances this campaign as he’s proved an ever-present under manager Philippe Clement.

The 30-year-old has been a driving force in midfield for the Light Blues, playing every single minute of the side’s Europa League exploits.

Lundstram’s experience and leadership have been instrumental in the engine room, with the Gers chasing silverware across three competitions this campaign.

NICOLA DOCHERTY

Named as Rangers Women’s captain at the start of the campaign, Docherty has led the Light Blues with distinction in their quest for an historic campaign this season.

The 31-year-old has been a force at both ends of the pitch for Jo Potter’s side, with the Gers picking up their first piece of silverware in the form of the Sky Sports Cup last month.

Docherty underlined her importance to the Light Blues side by springing from the bench to deliver the match-winning assist for Sarah Ewens in Sunday’s 3-1 triumph away to Partick Thistle.

KIRSTY MACLEAN

Although injury has interrupted the second half of Maclean’s campaign, the Academy graduate has been a driving force for the Light Blues in midfield after her emergence last season.

Indeed, the teenager has been on the scoresheet on two separate Old Firm occasions this term, netting the equaliser in both victories away from home over Celtic at the Excelsior Stadium.

International recognition has duly followed for the 19-year-old this season, and she will be keen to cement her place in the Scotland squad over the coming years.

RACHEL ROWE

A summer arrival from Reading, Rowe wasted precious little time in announcing herself to the Rangers faithful with a string of impressive performances.

The creative hub of Jo Potter’s side, the 31-year-old has dazzled supporters and teammates alike with her blend of pace, trickery and tireless work ethic.

Such is her abundance of talent that the Welsh international produced a terrific solo goal to restore her side’s lead in the Sky Sports Cup final last month, collecting the ball on the corner of the penalty area before sending a ferocious strike off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.

RIO HARDY

Hardy has been Rangers’ chief goal-getter this term as her clinical edge in front of goal has proven crucial to the side’s push for silverware across three fronts.

As well as netting vital goals in the Sky Sports Cup and Scottish Cup, her tally of 21 in the SWPL has supercharged the Light Blues’ title bid.

Indeed, the 27-year-old netted a hat-trick away to Dundee United earlier this season, before backing that up with a four-goal haul in the subsequent away outing against Montrose seven days later.
