Rangers Thank Stewart And Zungu For Contribution To 55

RANGERS Football Club would today like to put on record their sincere thanks to Greg Stewart and Bongani Zungu as they depart Ibrox following their efforts in delivering 55.

Stewart, 31, lived the dream by featuring for his boyhood heroes, and in his two seasons with the club, made a total of 33 appearances and netted three goals.

He has been regarded as a terrific asset for manager Steven Gerrard in training and around the Rangers Training Centre with an exemplary attitude to his work.

Stewart can look back on his time at the club with pride having featured in a number of high-profile fixtures, not least the unforgettable 3-2 win over Braga in the Europa League in February 2020.

It is also the end of the loan spell for Bongani Zungu, with the South Africa internationalist returning to parent club Amiens this summer.

Zungu earned a total of 21 appearances for the Light Blues, often being a crucial figure in assisting Gerrard’s side see out tight matches to secure three points on numerous occasions this year.

His time at Rangers also saw him win a recall to the South Africa national team for their African Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.

Speaking as the two players departed the club, Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, commented: “We made a number of changes to the squad last summer and the group has a real strength and connection in it between all of the players. Greg and Bongani were two really positive influences and popular members around the group.

“As a Rangers fan I know how much it meant to Greg to help the club clinch the league championship and I am delighted he moves on to his next challenge as a league champion.”
