Gers ran out 3-1 winners against the League Two side and McCallum said it was an important learning curve for the players.
Speaking to RangersTV at full time, he said: “The game was a different challenge from what we had at the weekend, I think Albion Rovers were a little bit more aggressive which was good for our lads.
“They are comfortable playing with the ball particularly under no or little pressure so it was good that Albion Rovers brought a little bit more of an aggressive sense.
“It was a good learning curve and it is one that we hope the boys will try and figure out and expect a little bit sooner than we did tonight.
“We can't expect that we are going to get our own way all the time. We should expect that teams are going to be that way against us.”
McCallum was pleased with the attacking threat this evening, as Tony Weston, Alex Lowry and Arron Lyall got on the scoresheet.
He continued: “Everything just now is just learning because it is different when you are playing against senior players because they certainly have a bit of longevity at that level of the game.
“On Saturday we didn't pose a lot of threat in the attacking third whereas today we did and we did say that to them it is alright having the possession in the 18 yard box but what have we got beyond that.”
