RANGERS lost 2-0 to Glasgow City this afternoon in their final game of the Scottish Women’s Premier League season.
First-half goals from Hayley Lauder and Naimh Farrelly were enough to secure three points for Scott Booth’s side.
Malky Thomson named one change from last weekend’s 6-0 victory over Motherwell with Chelsea Cornet coming into the starting line-up and Clare Gemmell on the bench.
It was Glasgow City who took the lead on the 12th minute as Priscilla Chinchilla fed the ball through to Hayley Lauder who shot across goal and into the far corner, beating goalkeeper Megan Cunningham.
The hosts doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark as City were awarded a free-kick around 25-yards out. Hayley Lauder whipped the ball into the box to find the run of an unmarked Naimh Farrelly who headed home to make it 2-0
Carly Girasoli had a header for Rangers shortly after but the defender's effort was just wide of the target.
Five minutes before the break, Joe Love found the run of Hayley Lauder in the box but Megan Cunningham managed to get a hand to the effort to push it away.
Malky Thomson made one change to his side at the break as Brogan Hay was replaced by Emma Brownlie.
The home side threatened again in the second-half as Hayley Lauder’s cross met the head of substitute Nicole Robertson but her effort was over the bar before Zoe Ness had a chance from close range for Gers but her effort was over the bar.
Captain Clare Gemmell came off the bench for the final ten minutes, replacing Chelsea Cornet, to make her last appearance for Rangers as she retires from football.
Late in the game the Light Blues had an opportunity to get one back as Emma Brownlie curled an effort towards goal but it bounced back off the crossbar.
