A fantastic Keira Chuter half-volley after just 30 seconds gave the hosts the perfect start as they took an early lead at Foundation Park.
The Gers responded in impressive fashion with first half doubles from Kirsty Howat and Rio Hardy as well as Tessel Middag strike from the edge of the area as they took a 5-1 lead at the break.
A further second half free-kick from Howat added to the lead as she claimed a hat-trick on the day before a Kirsty Maclean goal and a second Hardy penalty gave her a hat-trick of her own as she rounded off the scoring with the Gers running out comfortable winners.
Jo Potter named one change to the side that were 1-0 winners over Partick Thistle in their previous outing, with Laura Berry replacing Sarah Ewens in the front two.
After just 30 seconds on the clock Dundee United took an early lead. A throw-in down the left side broke for Keira Chuter who tried her luck on the half-volley from distance as it looped over Victoria Esson into the far corner in what was a brilliant opener from the hosts.
The Gers looked to respond instantly to going behind. Laura Berry combined with her strike partner Kirsty Howat with a ball across the box but the latter was unable to convert the opportunity as they looked for a quick response.
Rangers got the response they were looking for before the five-minute mark after a lively start. Rachel McLauchlan delivered an expert cross into the box which Howat was able to bring down and compose herself before sliding the ball past Aaliyah- Jay Meach to level up the scoring.
McLauchlan herself went close to putting the Gers ahead with an ambitious strike from 25-yards. Tessel Middag took a free-kick short to the defender who tried her luck from range, but the effort flew just wide of the right post.
Rachel Todd looked to follow in the footsteps of the first goalscorer by also firing a shot in from range. The midfielder found herself in space inside the Rangers half and opted to shoot but the effort was comfortable for Esson in goal.
Middag went close to getting on the scoresheet with an effort from the edge of the area. Berry did well to combine with Mia McAulay down the right channel, cutting the ball back the midfielder struck a left footed shot which was heading for the far corner but Meach did well to keep it out.
The Light Blues were presented with a golden opportunity to go ahead. Kirsty Maclean’s strike looked to be heading towards the target before a block from Cassie Cowper diverted it away from goal. The referee deemed the deflection to be of the use of a hand as he pointed to the penalty spot. Rio Hardy stepped up right footed as she expertly converted the ball into the back of the Dundee United net to give the away side the lead on the day.
Another goal came in quick succession courtesy of Middag from outside the area. Hardy was again deeply involved this time from the left channel as she cut the ball back to the midfielder. Striking the ball first time the effort looped over Meach into the middle of the net to give the Gers breathing space in the contest.
The strikes kept on coming for the Gers as just minutes later they pulled further ahead through a brilliant Hardy strike. Berry was sent in behind the United defence by Middag as she burst down the flank, cutting the ball back she found the striker on the right side of the box who sent a fantastic curling effort over the goalkeeper and into the far corner to make it four.
Nicola Docherty went close to adding to the scoring after a corner-kick routine. Maclean found her captain on the edge of the area, opting to shoot right-footed her effort troubled Meach initially before she was able to gather at the second attempt with help from her backline.
Maclean almost provided the perfect assist for Berry to make it five. The midfielder clipped the ball over the hosts’ backline with an expertly weighted pass, the youngster latched onto the pass but her looping effort went over the bar from inside the idea.
Howat was on hand to add a fifth before the internal and her second of the afternoon. Maclean was again heavily involved as she made inroads outside the United penalty area. Working a half yard of space she teed up the striker who sent a looping effort into the far corner as Rangers were making the most of their opportunities.
The Gers started the second half fast as they went in search of adding to their five goals. McLeary, who had swapped flanks after the introduction of Kayla Jardine found Howat on the edge of the area, but the striker’s left footed shot was held by Meach as she went in search of her hat-trick.
McLeary almost turned provider for Hardy to head home her hat-trick. The youngster picked up the ball in the second phase after a corner as she swung a cross back in, the forward rose highest but her header went just wide of the near post.
The Light Blues introduced Michelle Colson and Eilidh Austin after the hour-mark. The away side continued to dominate possession and create openings but were unable to add to their five strikes in the opening 45 minutes.
Jardine went agonisingly close to her first senior goal. A cross from the left flank broke to the youngster inside the area as she tried an effort left footed, but the half-volley attempt came back off the bar and stayed out.
Hardy had a set-piece opportunity to grab her third and the Gers still went in search of more goals. The forward stood over a free-kick on the edge of the area, but the shot flew over the top of the bar leaving Meach untroubled.
The Light Blues finally added to their five first half goals with a moment of brilliance from a Howat free-kick. Just minutes later, a similar chance presented itself on the edge of the area for the striker as she placed one into the top corner to claim a hat-trick and make it six.
There was still time towards the end for another strike of the highest quality as Kirsty Maclean got herself on the scoresheet. The ball broke for the midfielder who fired an unstoppable shot on the half-volley from range to make it seven.
In the last of the action at Foundation Park Rio Hardy was on hand to fire in her hat-trick. Berry was fouled after closing in on goal inside the penalty area as the referee pointed to the spot for the second time. The striker stepped up to bag her first league hat-trick as Rangers ran out comfortable winners in Dundee.
