Lizzie Arnot opened the scoring from the penalty spot before a Rebecca Galbraith own goal and a Zoe Ness strike made it three at the break before second-half goals from Chelsea Cornet and Bala Devi rounded off the scoring.
Malky Thomson named two changes to his side with Clare Gemmell and Nicola Docherty coming into the starting line-up with Bala Devi and Daina Bourma on the bench.
Rangers started strong and tested Spartans’ goalkeeper Rachel Harrison inside the first minute of the match. Brogan Hay broke down the right before cutting inside and playing a one-two with Zoe Ness but Hay’s powerful effort was pushed away by Harrison.
The Light Blues were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute as Emma Brownlie was taken down in the box by Robyn McCafferty. Lizzie Arnot stepped up to the spot and confidently fired the ball home to give Rangers the lead.
Brownlie had a chance shortly after to double the advantage but she dragged her shot just wide, before Brogan Hay saw a shot saved as Rangers piled on the pressure.
That pressure paid off as the Gers doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark. Nicola Docherty delivered a ball from the right to Lizzie Arnot in the box, the forward hit a powerful effort towards goal which bounced off the crossbar with the rebound coming off Spartans’ Rebecca Galbraith before falling in the back of the net.
Rangers pushed for a third before the break as Lizzie Arnot got her head to Emma Brownlie’s cross but her effort was held by Alicia Yates.
That third goal did come in the final minute of the first-half as Arnot’s long-range effort was pushed away by Alicia Yates but landed at Zoe Ness who tapped the ball over the line. Rangers started the second-half as they ended the first with Clare Gemmell and Emma Brownlie both seeing shots saved by Alicia Yates.
The visitors made it four as Carly Girasoli picked out the run of Lizzie Arnot who squared the ball to Chelsea Cornet in the box and the midfielder slotted her shot beyond Yates. Malky Thomson made a raft of changes to his side in the second-half with Chantelle Swaby, Bala Devi, Hannah Cunningham, Sonia O’Neill and Daina Bourma all featuring from the bench.
Carly Girasoli came close to adding to the scoring in stoppage time but her header was just over the bar.
The fifth goal did come in added time as Bala Devi hit a terrific strike from outside the box which looped over Yates and into the back of the net.
