Report: Match of Legends

IT was a glorious sunny afternoon at Ibrox as Rangers welcomed a number of familiar faces to continue the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The roar from the stands as the legends walked down the famous blue tunnel was one to remember for the players, staff and supporters.

The home side started sprightly as they looked to find the lead early on, with the Hammer coming close to opening goal with an effort going just wide of the post.

However, it was Shota Arveladze who hit the back of the net just before half time after getting on the end of a lovely delivery from Ronald De Boer.

Heading into the second half, the visitors looked to find the equaliser with Carlos Marchena heading the ball past Neil Alexander from a Kaka cross.

Shortly after, the world legends got the leading goal as Nuno Gomes managed to slot another past Alexander.

Ricardo Quaresma netted the third for Luis Figo’s squad after finding the ball on the edge of the Rangers box to send a powerful strike past the keeper.

It was the legendary Gazza who managed to pull one back for the home side, after he sent a ferocious ball from within the World Legends box past David James to end the score line 3-2.
